Soi Dog Foundation Thailand
The Soi Dog Foundation is a leading non-profit organization based in Phuket, Thailand, dedicated to improving the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, striving for a society without homeless animals, and ultimately ending animal cruelty. Established in 2003 by British couple John and Gill Dalley, and Margot Homburg Park, the foundation’s name, “Soi Dog,” comes from the Thai word “soi,” meaning “street,” reflecting its focus on street animals.
Soi Dog Foundation is the largest organization of its kind in Southeast Asia, operating primarily through its comprehensive Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return (CNVR) program. This program is instrumental in humanely controlling the stray animal population, reducing suffering, and preventing the spread of diseases like rabies. Their efforts have significantly reduced the stray dog population in Phuket by over 90% in 15 years and have been critical in nearly eradicating human rabies risk on the island.
Beyond CNVR, Soi Dog provides a wide range of vital services, including:
- Rescue and Medical Treatment: Operating state-of-the-art hospitals for dogs and cats at their Gill Dalley Sanctuary in Phuket, they provide advanced medical care to thousands of sick, injured, and abused animals. They also have community outreach programs that treat animals in the field.
 - Adoption: Facilitating both local and international adoptions, finding loving forever homes for rescued dogs and cats around the world.
 - Emergency Response: Providing aid, rescue, and food to animals affected by natural disasters and other crises across the region.
 - Anti-Dog and Cat Meat Trade Campaigns: Soi Dog was instrumental in seeing the dog meat trade largely abolished in Thailand through new animal welfare laws in 2014 and continues to actively campaign against this brutal trade in other Southeast Asian countries like Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
 - Advocacy and Education: Working to improve animal welfare laws and educate communities about responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals.

The foundation operates entirely on donations and welcomes volunteers from around the globe to their sanctuary, emphasizing their commitment to transparency and efficient use of funds to maximize their impact on animal welfare.
