Caritas Thailand

Caritas Thailand is the official social and development arm of the Catholic Church in Thailand, operating under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Thailand (CBCT). Since its founding in 1972 (formerly as the Catholic Commission for Human Development), Caritas Thailand has been dedicated to integral human development, guided by Catholic social teaching.

The organization’s mission is to serve the poor and disadvantaged by promoting human dignity, strengthening families and communities, and advocating for justice and human rights. This is achieved through a wide range of programs that address both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development challenges.

Key areas of work include:

  • Emergency Relief and Disaster Management: Providing immediate and effective humanitarian aid to communities affected by natural disasters.
  • Community Development: Empowering vulnerable groups through training in areas such as community leadership, sustainable agriculture, and livelihood improvement.
  • Support for Vulnerable Populations: Offering care and assistance to ethnic minority groups, migrants, refugees, prisoners, and individuals with disabilities or HIV/AIDS.
  • Human Trafficking and Child Protection: Raising awareness and implementing projects to combat human trafficking and promote a child-safe society.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Promoting care for the environment and sustainable practices.

With a secretariat in Bangkok that serves as a hub for its 10 diocesan organizations, Caritas Thailand leverages a dedicated network of staff and volunteers across the country. As a member of the Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Asia confederations, the organization collaborates with a global network to provide effective, compassionate, and locally-driven social action.
